Chaps. Ask any petrol head who makes the most beautiful cars, chances are the majority will say Ferrari. Ask any petrol head which Ferrari is the most beautiful, chances are the 250 GTO will be at the top. With only 39 being built between '62 and '64, it has become the stuff of legends and is sought after with the highest price being paid of $35,000,000 I build Ferrari road cars, lots of them (not very well I might add) and so when Revell announced a repop of their old kit was being re released this month, the already twitching credit card was exercised once more... Don't get too excited, just another one of prof's ramblings which will no doubt be both slow and dull. That said, anyone daft enough to follow will be welcomed with (virtual) open arms! Back in a while...

Hmm, tough one that Dicky. It's not well publicised that its a re release but the parts count is the same so I'm assuming nothing's changed except for the box art.
That said, it's one of Revell's better ones so assuming the moulds have stood the test of time, we should be able to do something with it. Due to the amount of time it's been around, the AM manufacturers support it very well should you wish to go further.
No plans to do that myself but that might change once I have given it a full viewing.

The 250 gto is one of the most beautiful cars af all time. I'v got a 1/12 scale diecast model stashed away, waiting for an overhaul.
Looking at some WIP's of the Revell model, I would say that the dimensions are spot on. But most Revell Ferrari's have to much space between the top of the tires and the body, but this can be fixed. Either change the height of the suspension or get some AM wheels and tires. Wheels with PE spokes will make this model look a lot better.

If ever there is a Ferrari to do mate then this is it................my all time favorite and one that has crossed my mind in the past, i have seen some of the AM for the Ferrari`s and it seems there is quite a bit out there!!............lock up ya wallet , i may dabble at one one day but the paint finish scares the hell outta me.............i really need to stock up on polishing stuff/micro mesh etc before even contemplating something like this!!............looking forward to this one matey

Hi Wetsellery.
Yep, comments noted, wheels is one of those areas where injection moulding falls short. I might start by stripping the chrome off them and seeing what they look like without the thick plating on them.

Chaps.
Boots, steady mate! I will do a brief what's in the box soon to give you a better idea but what I can say is that you get decs and exhausts for the race version too.
Leon, hello buddy, welcome aboard, bring some strong coffee, this won't be exciting!

Hello chaps. Boo, good to have you along mate although dont get any daft ideas about this turning out as good as your offerings coz it won't! Boots, know what you mean geez, this has gotta have pretty sharp paintwork otherwise it won't look right, that will be a real challenge in itself. Ok, as this is unlikely to be followed in favour of the more attractive? Armour subjects, I am dispensing with my usual, tedious, what's in the box in favour of one shot, so here it is... On the whole it all looks kind of ok although the all important chrome parts are thickly moulded and difficult to remove from the sprue cleanly, body shell seems to capture the shape of the original rather well but I have counted at least 8 mould seams that need to be dealt with. Only thing not shown is a small bag containing screws and springs for the suspension which is nice to see. A bit of a mixed bag really which, if my research is correct, is a re release of Revell's original release which is in itself a re pop of the old (but nice) Protar kit. Still pondering but I think the aftermarket may have to be plundered...

She don`t look too bad out the bag mate , good to hear they have a few extra bits for the suspension as well..............as for the paint.........you`ll have no probs

Thanks for the vote of confidence Boots, but things like the engine intake trumpets, well, I'm not sure i can salvage them.
Imatanker, hi mate, yes, you're right, it could be worse!

Prof, you sell yourself way too short buddy, you're as good as anyone else at these motor builds and a darn sight better than you think you are buddy. I love watching your builds. It'll be cool to see what the AM parts can add to this. Who makes a PE set for it Prof, I can't say I've come across one myself ? Prof, agree with boo.Don't sell yourself short buddy.Looking forward to you starting this.

Thanks guys but I think we'll beg to differ. Ok, had some spare time earlier so took a closer look at the bodywork. In summary... Mould seams (quite a few). Lower half of the nose doesn't line up with the upper. Bonnet is a 'questionable' fit. Right hand door, same as bonnet. Air ducts behind rear wheels are a bit hit and miss. Left door not as bad as the right but far from ideal. But hey, the boot lid seems to fit ok! Much sanding and cursing will now ensue... Boo, the AM is a lovely little set, will post a link later, in the meantime, COME ON MURRAY !!!!!

Hi chaps.
ER, hi buddy, build one, lots of fun!
Boo, yep, all the way from sunny Oz, there are other sources but the set I am after is sold pretty much solely through BNA Model World so my choice is somewhat limited.

Nice one Prof, one of the all time greats from Italy this one I'll pass the the prancing horse batten to you for a while as my F1 is stalled for a bit

Hi Steve, I will grab the batten for now buddy but don't be away too long! Ok, a start has been made on the chassis. Pic pretty much tells the story though much of what you see is a dry fit for now. The few parts that have been glued hardly fit that well, I have a feeling that filler will be my friend on this one.
