Great color choice. I really like the C7 as they have the most in common with the C3 vettes visually, to my eye. This one is gonna be a stunner.

I decided to give painting a shot tonight. Also added a bit of black to darken it up. Not sure if it was the cold, but I couldn't get it to lay down as nice the other night. For the final wet coat I reduced the pressure a bit sort of helped. I think Im happy enough with it. Adding the wheels and some black accents here and there plus clear should make it nicer.

Now THAT is a dang cool lookin' color James. Don't worry so much about the paint laying down perfect for you buddy. Just let 'er gas out for a couple of days and wet sand it with grits starting at say......4000 grit then walk it up through the 6K, 8K and 12K grits and it should smooth out any imperfections that are in the paint.

If you're gonna clear then apply that then repeat the wet sanding process and THEN polish it out. I'm pretty sure you know this already but had to cover it. You're doing such a good job on this James.

Were about to get another week of rain, so I may wait for it to pass. before I apply clear coat but Ill get it sanded!

Now this is a beautiful looking build, cars are not normally my thing but this one looks great Well thats a nice compliment, thank you! I need to learn this sorcery! I actually learned this just this year. I can give a quick step by step process but I am no means an expert. This is assuming you have already corrected any issues with the body like mold lines and other issues. Sand body at 1000 grit to even out any repairs made like the removal of mold lines and or filling holes etc 2 coats of primer (my current preference is Mr Color 1500 grey) Light wet sand 2000 grit to knock down any dust or any rough surface on primer 3-4 coats of primary color starting with light dust coat, and increasing amount of paint on each coat with the last 2 being wet coats let gas out (fully cure) this will change depending on paint wet sand as Joe described above 4,6,8,10 and 12k grit 2-3 coats of clear coat of your choice same wet sanding process as above Then I use Tamiya's 3 step polishing compounds - course, fine, finish Man the paint looks awesome! Thanks! Hopefully I can improve it with sanding and clear!

Well, turns out the paint was a bit rougher than expected. I tried my hardest to lightly sand away the orange peel at 4k up to 10k without sanding through but I did just that on some of the sharper edges. I think I will for some better weather which should only be a week away. Instead of painting late at night ill do it mid day when the sun is out and its not 50 degrees in my garage. Im pretty sure I can save it. Either way, I have to remind myself this is only the 4th car I have ever tried to paint with any kind of actual process. So I am still learning a lot.

You will be able to save it. How did you have it thinned? When mixed properly, lacquers are really forgiving. They flash off pretty quickly, and are much harder to run. How much time between coats also? Now that you have sanded it that far, scuff out the shiny spots so you have a uniform base. I would not prime, just make sure it is really clean and tacked off, make sure your temp is at least over 60, and have proper thinning mixture.

Also, how many coats are on it? If you have more than 3 coats on it already, I wouldn’t go more than 2 coats after this. If you get it laid down fairly smooth, skip the sanding, clear it and then gently sand the clear. If that does not work for you, sorry, it’s off to the purple bath.

Got a chance to give this paint job a 2nd go. Wet sanded with 1500 grit to remove the shine from everywhere I could. Increased the psi on the airbrush, slowed down the back and forth motions. And I think I finally got a nice top coat. Once I lay down some clear and polish it, it should do just fine.

Way to GO James!!! . Great work hanging with this one and seeing that beautiful looking paint job through buddy. Most paint jobs where burn through is experienced can be saved. I've seen folks shelve builds over this but you stuck with it and prevailed rather well. I'm SO looking forward to next steps.

While I wait for some carbon decals to come in the mail for this thing... I got impatient and decided to paint the same black accent as you would see on the race car. I think this, combined with some CF bits will give additional contrast and make the car look pretty nice. Ironically, Now that I have the airbrush and thinning mixture dialed in this paint went down a lot easier haha. As you can see from the photos I'm working out some trash in the paint while we prepare for decals and clear.
