For my hopefully First of two builds in this group build ::fingers Crossed:: I will be building Tamiya's 1/20 Honda RA272. Not a huge winner via race results, but a technological jump, and a few firsts for Honda. So it has its own semi iconic place in history. I just love the way it looks, and it will be cool to build a V12! I have not yet mentioned this but I will be ATTEMPTING to add a few goodies here to make it more realistic. I had trouble with this in another build but now that I know what I am getting into I think I will be better off. Falcon Model's Fuel System detail parts - They add a crazy amount of detail the kit fails to provide. Also, some upgraded ( and better looking rear suspension parts and drive shafts. Lights out and away we......

Awesome kit. I built it a few years back - that detail set is very nice.
Ginther won the Mexican Grand Prix in '65 in that car. First F1 win for a Japanese car.

I built this one in Ronnie Bucknum version. A gorgeous car and an iconic one for Japan, at least. The fuel lines are almost a must with this one. I was newly returned to the hobby when I built it so I didn't do them, but have often considered going back to add them. The fuel lines add so much. Cannot wait to see this.

Great kit choice, James. And I like the a/m parts you got for it. Like others have said, I built one years ago.

Go! Got started this evening! Pretty excited. Started by washing all the parts. I soak in warm water with Dawn dish soap then a rinse and air dry. Do you wash your parts? The only real work I got done was to drill out the exhaust. You cant have a race car with two solid exhaust pipes sticking out the back!

Yes, drilling the exhaust is another great move on this kit. So many little things to do to improve this. You are going to elevate this nicely. As for the washing...I do with every kit. Same thing, just good old Dawn and a toothbrush. Some of the old kits I've had have almost been greasy. I'm sure a lot of the newer kits don't need it but it's a part of my process now and gives me a chance to get a good look at all the parts.

It's a great kit, almost like building a motorcycle. I want to see this upgrade, I just built mine OOB.

Ive been anticipating this build since it was first brought up. But this little heat wave my area is experiencing is making it so annoying to be in the garage. I got very little work done last night as it was still almost 90 degrees in my garage last night at nearly 9 pm. I gave up and went inside under a fan with some ice water and read a book haha. All I did was remove some mold lines from the main parts of the body. Particularly nasty ones so close to the door handle detail.

Sometimes those mold lines are in just the wrong spot. Luckily, in this case, that’s just the mirror mount so even if you got into it you could always just add a little rivet detail and it would be back to resembling what it should. Hopefully the weather chills out for you!! Looking forward to seeing what’s next.

Cool car. Very nice upgrade parts. I have never built one of these, but I’m looking forward to seeing how things come together. I feel your pain with the heat, I was up early this morning painting before it gets too hot 🥵

Several of you have mentioned building this kit. Did you use the suggested Tamiya TS-7? I bought this and received it today Ill probably try it out to test first. I should have ordered the TS7 also. Well see.

I used TS7 racing white (which is I believe what you meant. TS9 is green) straight from the can. Looks like this. Interested to hear your thoughts on that paint you picked up. Let us know the results of the test!

Looks spot on to me, guess I wasted the extra $$ haha. And yes, I meant 7. Thanks Kyle!

I couldn't find a US distributer so I went to Google. Hobbyworld USA had some and despite the bad reviews I gave it a shot. I probably got lucky that it even arrived. Thanks for the tip. Ill throw it down on one of those spare bodies you sent to test it out.

I did the same - I've had pretty good luck with Tamiya paints right out of the can.

Yea, I love Tamiya paints. Jar and spray can alike. Just wasn't sure which was the more accurate offering. Guess I have two good options!

They have a color or three I’d like to have that I can’t source from other companies.

I did the same - I've had pretty good luck with Tamiya paints right out of the can. Nice!! The Tamiya cans are soo good. And with the F1 stuff a lot of times the color was created specifically for the kit. This color, British racing green, camel yellow, the blue for the Leyton house, Italian Red, French blue for the ligier. I’m sure there’s others I’m forgetting. So on F1 builds it’s usually at least in the ballpark.

Have not spent much time on this. I've had a few urgent car repairs that took up my garage time. Why Honda makes starters so hard to get to is very annoying lol. Anyways, I did this last night. Lighting in bad and makes it look very gold. Its much more subtle in normal lighting.
