That turned out really good. It looks bigger than 1/20th scale, especially like the springs, big improvement over the kit.
I passed on the chance to buy a 1/12th version of that car, now I'm kicking myself when I see what they sell for, I'll never own one.
A+ job mate!!

Don’t sell yourself short on this one James!! Despite any issues your added details look terrific!! Much better looking than my build of this. You’re right, of course, we’re all our own worst critics. Fantastic work. And thank YOU for joining in the group build. Plenty of time to sneak another one in later. 😉

James, Just a great build. One would have a really hard time looking at side by side pictures of your build against a 1/12 build as it just that good.
So what's up next on your bench?

I owe it to John to try and get an old build finished. I couldnt handle the up and down access issues over at FSM and I left in the middle of his F1 GB so I should try and finish that here. Its in rough shape. I had no idea what I was doing when trying to add decals and I had to choose like, the worlds hardest F1 car livery haha. Or well, what felt like it anyways.

James, I'm more then a little rusty on my Lotus model numbers. I'm pretty sure it's either a 78 or 79. Paint looks smooth as silk and does have a deep shine. But it's the gold pin stripes that caught my eye. Very nicely done. Now you've got to finish the rest of this build.

James, I came close but no cigar. Many, many moons ago I built the Tamiya 72E (pretty sure it's a Tamiya not an Ebbro kit), which also had that Gloss Black paint scheme and Gold Pin stripes, and they drove me nuts. Sadly, the kit no longer exists when I moved my display from one room to another, and it kind of hit the ground at a bad angle as I had one kit to many stacked to save a trip.. At least I've got a few pictures of it. joel

Wow, that is amazing. Hopefully my additional experience with decals helps me get through the rest. I tried building this car having never really added anything beyond the typical license plate, dash board, or logo decals. Not the best idea to start with something as unique as a John player Special livery haha.

James, I've seen enough of your work to have complete confidence in your ability to finish the Lotus 78 in grand style.

James, I really don't like decals much, and I really HATE pin stripes.
If I can do it, you can do it.
ps: if you haven't already, order a set of Indycals decals (used in the 78 above)

Already ahead of you! When I was struggling with the kit decals, I ordered them. We will see what I do. Maybe start over. I means its really bad. I had no idea what I was doing and just jumped in. Now I have an actual technique that works most of the time.

Paul, I keep on telling you that for a guy that hates decaling, your builds have nearly perfect decaling 99% of the time.

I build to a standard of "is it acceptable? - no, do it over, or yes, move on to next step". Nothing's ever perfect, nothing is show quality, but if it looks "pretty good" sitting in the shelf, I consider it a success.
James, your build has me looking at mine and thinking should I do it over or just hide it, lol.

If you decide to do it over let me know. I purchased two of these kits and had to dip into it for lost parts.. (Probably moved or taken by my son) and some other parts I broke. So I have like 90% of a new kit. And extra decals also

Thought I bookmarked this and it got away from me somehow. I just reviewed the entire build thread, great WIP thread (most informative) and wow, what a result. This is one of my new favorite classic F1 cars, Great work! I think your powerplant is very impressive. Those little resin parts look scary, but you sure worked magic with them.

Outstanding build, James. And you did a great job on your first try at 3D parts.
