James, Now that's one perfect white paint job. I'd say you'd nail it for sure.
For me the key to a white paint job is perfect very light Gray or White primer. Then two tack coats, then two wet coats. But that's using Lacquer paints either Tamiya, Mr. Color, and of course my Favorite Gravity of Spain.

It took me a while to learn that a perfect primer coat is key to a successful base coat. I actually do a wet sand at 2500 grit after the 2nd coat of primer. My base coat process is 1 Mist/tack coat, at 8-10 in away. 2nd coat is a full coverage coat at 8-10 inches and passes are a little slower than the mist coat. 3rd and final is a wet coat at 6-8 inches with slower strokes. I also use both Tamiya and Mr Color paints.

Beautiful paint work James. You nailed it. As others have said, white is very tough

I think the colour is right on. I guess the other way to achieve it is to use Testors White Enamel and wait six months.
Seriously, that's a nice paint job.

Thank you both! I opted for the Tamiya TS7 instead of the Gravity colors.. looks like it was a fine decision.

This damn piece! Ive painted it 3 times. Keeps running, or bubbling, or both. I dont know if its the shape, no matter how light I try to spray.. This is as good as its going to get. Exhaust is on, looking good. Also might have bit off more than I can chew here. I jsut cant see the parts im trying to work with. even with 4x magnifiers

James, The engine is looking outstanding. You don't have to tell me just how frustrating it is trying to work with pcs that are so small you can't see them. For me, it's just about a majority of the smaller pcs in a 1/20 scale kit.
The engine cover looks like you won the battle. Clear plastic is a real pain to paint, even properly priming it as there's zero bite. Sanding with 1500 or 2000 Tamiya sponge would give the primer plenty of tooth to grip with. The rest of your painting should work as it always does. Believe me that I learned this the hard way.

Didnt want to complicate this build with after market parts, but I didnt take my own advice. I will say though. These rear axles are dern near identical to the real thing. Much better looking than the supplied parts from Tamiya. If any of you plan to build this in the future, These are worth the purchase. You can BUY THEM HERE (Not affiliated)

Looks like you nailed the assembly of the drive shaft perfectly. I take it the U-joints can pivot?

James, The drive shaft really looks way better especially the universal joints. I went to the site and the shocks really are also a kit improvement. Just one question. Are each of the parts just attached to the sheet in a few places so that removable don't require a lot of sanding for the surface areas facing the base plate? joel

I take it the U-joints can pivot? Thanks! Yes you actually glue in tiny bolts that hold it in place but it does pivot like the real deal James, The drive shaft really looks way better especially the universal joints. Are each of the parts just attached to the sheet in a few places so that removable don't require a lot of sanding for the surface areas facing the base plate? joel Joel, removing them from from the resin trees is I would say moderate to easy. A sharp knife, good nippers and patience and I was able to do it with no issues. Any sanding needed is minimal. I wuld say the springs were the only difficult part. But, once I realized I can compress the spring and sand all coils at the same time leaving it perfectly smooth, it was easy after that. Here is the only photo I took of them on the trees. If thats even the correct term.

James, That's really interesting about the springs being able to be compressed. I would have assumed that being some form of Resin they are pretty brittle, but they're not. joel

I bought some upgrade printed bike parts from the same guy. To be honest, they didn't seem to be much of an upgrade. Those bits you got certainly are an upgrade!!
And for the record, I left the engine cover clear.

I did notice these RA272 parts are printed better. Its possible this seller has gotten better? Either way, I highly recommend the axles and suspension.

James, As I said before after seeing those upgrade packs, the shocks just blow away the kit ones. joel Thanks Joel! I agree. Wow, no comparison from the stock parts. Gotta love after market, no kiddin! Yea, sometimes aftermarket can be expensive and not a huge upgrade. This was a rare time for me being that they were not very expensive, and twice as realistic I just came across this picture and I thought you'd like to see it, James Thanks, Paul! Looking at the photos I can find there is so many random changes to the car. Stacks, steering wheel, the way the fuel lines are ran.. There are so many options, I guess at last there wont really be a wrong way to do it haha. I'm just gonna go ahead and sell my kit of this now, there's no point in trying to build it after this. Incredible stuff. Thats a mighty fine compliment, but dont do that haha. The kit is well detailed so really Im just adding color to it all. Started getting the rear shocks put together. Wife and her ever growing to do list has kept me away from this. I've been making small advances here and there. With some struggles. I could not place the rising sun decal perfectly no matter how hard I tried. I will have to settle for this. Also, I damaged the 11 decal, and I have no idea how. It was the first time I touched it and it just fell apart. Engine and rear end is looking pretty nice. Too bad the best part will be covered up haha.
